This topic is one that has sat heavily  with me this year, I have been on my own journey of discovery. I live in Cambridge, a town that originated by hosting the 3rd Waikato militia. A force set up to fight the wars this book speaks off. I live 15 minutes away from some of the worst war atrocities that occurred and I never knew- no-one told me! well I know now!
We have descendants of those officers who fought these wars in our school today? They should not ever have to carry the guilt of the activities of there forebears, yet the stories must be told, with the brutal honesty of the treachery that many of them are.
Rangiaowhia  has to be one of the darkest days in our nations history, it sits beside Parihaka.
This book is a  great book to introduce us to the stories that need to be told, the stories that are hard to read, and the truth behind them. It is well illustrated, it deals with the future and the way forward and it would act as a great tour guide to the sites that we all need to know about and honor.
This book is the story of the 19th century New Zealand Wars, a part of New Zealand's history that many people wish they knew more about. The book describes how the wars came about, where and when they were fought, who was involved, and how they affected women and children. It explains the emergence of Kingitanga or Maori King movement, the land confiscations and the story of Parihaka.
