By: Jessica Anthony and Rodigro Corral Genre: Novel - kind off or is it a picture book love story? Location: FIC ANT This book is a stunner- a novel like the FRANKIE mag in set up but as a reviewer has said- this book is 'beautiful, strange and haunting- it is made luminous by its extraordinary images. " Check out this YouTube and you will see why this book has me hooked.

By: Cat Clarke Genre: Friendships or not Location: FIC CLA Four girls stuck in a cabin in the Scottish wilderness- all classmates. Well maybe not mates, just class. Polly is a social outcast, Rae is moody and emo- then there is Tara, the queen of mean. Alice and Cass are stuck with them and Cass wants to teach the powerful, cruel, mean and beautiful Tara a lesson.  So begins the series of events that will change the girls lives forever. Four girls. One dead body. A whole lot of guilt.

When we have wings

Image
By: Claire Corbett Genre: Fantasy Loc: FIC COR Jane Campion calls this book "Intoxicating". Mostly because the writer talks about flight, and it makes Jane Campion actually visualise herself flying, as if she could feel her wings. It is a story about the dream of flight becoming real, with surgery, drugs and gene manipulation- you too could fly. That is what Peri wants- a poor girl from the regions and she was prepared to do anything to get her wings and join the elite.  Is this self transformation- or self destruction. I want to read this book, it feels like fantasy with a difference and possibility. Not the vampire sucky thing- but flight and people.

Welcolm to Term Two of blogging for Cambridge High. Hope those of you who have been following this blog have also had a good holiday as I have had I managed to read a few good books over the break which was great, but what was even better was a tramp I did around the beautiful Lake Waikaremoana.  I think it is great to have the freedom and time to be able to indulge in reading, many people around the world cannot do this, either because they are not literate, cannot access books, or have to work all day every day to provide food for the family. We in the West take for granted that we can read, we should not. My muse though is that to be able to read we need writers. To write- you need to understand your world, to discover it, journey in it, be in it. Writers need experiences, they need perspectives of life. Good writers are explorers of their worlds. That is what I did when I walked around the lake for four days, I explored a natural beauty, I pushed my bod...

Everybody sees the ants.

By: A.S King Genre: Drama Location: FIC KIN Sean Beaudoin says this books is " Awesome. Hilarious. Brutal. James Patterson says" Do yourself a favour and read this book!" Lucky Linderman didn't ask for his life. He didn't ask his grandfather not to come home from the Vietnam War. He didn't ask for a father who never got over it. He didn't ask for a mother who keeps pretending their family is fine. And he certainly didn't ask to be the recipient of Nadar McMillan's relentless bullying, which has finally gone too far. Lucky has a secret--one that helps him wade through the daily dysfunction of his life. Grandad Harry, trapped in the jungles of Laos, has been visiting Lucky in his dreams--and the dreams just might be real an alternate reality where he can be whoever he wants to be and his life might still be worth living. But how long can Lucky remain in hiding there before reality forces its way inside?

The little coffee shop of Kabul

Image
By: Deborah Roderiguez Genre: Cultral novle Location: FIC ROD I was sitting in Perth airport with 6 hours to kill. Believe me- that is what you have to do in Perth International Airport!! So I found this gem of a book- and read it around Tanzania and then gave it as a gift to a friend. I liked it so much- I got the library a copy. It is about a community of people who live in Kabul and gather around a cafe, it tells the stories of Kabul's inhabitants, including the powerful story of a young girl who was stolen from a remote village and was abandoned on the violent streets of Kabul. Five women, five stories and the best book on a plane I have ever read!!!

By: Chas, Newkey-Burden Genre: Non-Fiction Location 920 There's a fire starting in my heart,Reaching a fever pitch and it's bring me out the dark. Finally I can see you crystal clear. Go ahead and sell me out and I'll lay your ship bare. See how I'll leave, with every piece of you. Don't underestimate the things that I will do. Nope dont underestimate Adele Laurie Blue Adkins. According to Wikipedia her album 21 helped Adele earn six Grammy Awards in 2012 including Album of the Year , equalling the record for most Grammy Awards won by a female artist in one night . She is the first artist to sell more than 3 million copies of an album in a year in the UK. Adele is also the first female artist to have three singles in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 at the same time. This is her unofficial story- the daughter of a single mum, who has blown all the music records out of the water- nope- don't underestimate Adele!!!
