Series: The Seven Series
POLEPOLE ah yes the Swahili word for slow. They call the buses in Tanzania polepole buses, it mocks the word, they go insanely fast, and there is not too much metal to hold them together as they lurch over pot holes the size of Lake Taupo. Have I been frightened in my life- oh yes in Tanzania on a Polepole bus. I like Kili, it is the local name for Mt Kilimanjaro and I know a few people who have climbed it, it is not a walk in the park, it is a massive climb that attacks you with altidue illness. The porters help you out, but you have to do the walking.
Between Heaven and Earth is part of a series of books written by different authors. The idea behind the series is that there are 7 boys whose Grandfathers, in their wills, has given them each a specific quest to fulfill. In this book the protagonist, DJ, is challenged to climb Mt. Kilamanjaro in Tanzania. The Grandfather's will allots funds for DJ to get to Africa, make the climb and scatter some of his Grandfather's ashes at the top of the mountain. During the trip and the climb DJ learns a great deal about himself and his grandfather. He learns what his Grandfathers real lesson for DJ is- life is a journey, a tough one, it is not a walk in the park, but if you walk it well, you will become a true man. Africa is like that, it makes you think, reflect, grow up, be challeneged and love life and living. What you also discover is that the kids in Tanzania need a quality education and the best way for them to get that is my training their teachers and by providing them the gift of books. We are setting up two libraries there this year and you can help!
